On March 20, 2009 at exactly 7:44 A.M. in the morning, the Sun crossed directly over the Earth's equator in an event known as the Vernal Equinox in our Northern Hemisphere.
This Equinox announces the arrival of Spring which has long been associated with rebirth and new beginnings. Many cultures celebrate holidays and festivals around this time. Longer days and warmer weather provide the perfect motivation for many of us to shrug off those winter blues!
Keeping with a holistic frame of mind, it is a great time of year to nurture body, mind and spirit with various activities and affirmations. Here are a few tips to nurture those very things.
Get out there and start moving! It is so easy to forget what our body is in need of during those long winter months when we are trying to stay warm and conserve energy. Now that we have made the transition to Spring, take advantage and let the energy of the Sun and the longer days get you out of your funk. Regular physical activity boosts your state of mind, enhances the quality of your life, and helps reduce stress all the while strengthening your body and raising your metabolism. Physical activity helps your body do what it was meant to do, and consequently, will keep your mind at peace. Remember that though it may be hard to get started, most feel invigorated after physical activity due to an endorphin release. Be original, exercise with family or friends, play a team sport outdoors or go for a hike on Mount Royal.
Next, make yourself #1 in your life and commit to YOU and to your priorities. Be careful not to lose yourself in all that there is to do and spread yourself too thin. Weed out what you can do without. You will feel more successful, fulfilled and energized! Maximize what you love to do... minimize the things you don't enjoy.
Practice meditation or some form of relaxation, daily. This will help you stay connected with your higher self, your life purpose and it will force you to set aside time and tune in to listen to #1, YOU! Journalling works as well!
Maintain a Playful Spirit - Don't forget to spend time having fun with your friends, family and pets. Keep life light, don't sweat the small stuff. Many fears are born out of loneliness and isolation, remember we are social beings. Make happiness your way of being, not just an end result of tasks accomplished.
